Volunteers
Actvities and Cost
Volunteers are generally responsible for organizing VISA's, vaccinations, transport and any other travel related items. Occassionally, if you are coming via another organization, they may do some or all of this for you. Please confirm with your sending organization as to whether this is the case or not. UAC is not responsible for this aspect, but is more then happy to provide assistance where possible.
Cameroon VISA fees vary from country to country. As noted above, please confirm with the Embassy or High Commission as to the fees.
The prefered destination for flights into Cameroon for UAC is Douala, but prior arrangements can be made if the volunteer wishes to fly to Yaounde. This may incur additional costs, depending on the arrangement. For those volunteers arriving in Douala, transport to and from Douala International Airport is included in your overall fee.
Please note, as of January 2009, there are NO airport fees upon arrival. Many people will offer assistance and usually request money. Many times these individuals even look official. It is not recommended that you take this assistance, however, if you should choose to do so, only 1 - 2$ USD or 500 - 1000 fcfa should sufficient.
There is an airport tax of 10,000 fcfa (local currency, about 20$ USD) for all departures. This is paid AFTER you have gone through the check-in counter.
UAC Fees are the following**:
- Two weeks: 200 Euro - 131.000 FCFA
- First Month: 250 Euro - 163.750 FCFA
- Second Month: 150 Euro - 98.250 FCFA
- Subequent Months: 100 Euro - 65.500 FCFA
**Some organizations have special agreements with UAC Cameroon which may or may not result in different fees being paid.
UAC Fees include:
- Housing (including basic facilities)
- Meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
- Transport to and from Douala International Airport
- Transport within Buea, to project sites
